Born in Chester in 1973. Nathan grew up in various places across the North West, including Salford, Greater Manchester and Warrington. Nathan studied Fine Art at Liverpool John Moore's University from 1993 to 1996 specialising in painting. He later stayed in Liverpool and is still based there today.
He continued to paint after university with breaks for periods of time due to family commitments, and currently has his studio at his home in Bootle (just outside Liverpool town centre). He was a Prize-winner at the 3rd and 4th Wirral Open exhibitions at the Williamson Art Gallery, and was selected for the 'Best of Merseyside' Exhibition in 2008 and the 'Art Merseywide' Exhibition in 2010 at the National Conservation Centre. Nathan was also commissioned by John Lewis to produce 9 paintings for permanent display in their new Liverpool John Lewis Stores Espresso Bar (which are still on display).
In 2006 Nathan turned to the medium of Photography due to a lack of room to store and produce paintings. He approached his photography very much through the eyes of a painter, composing out of focus abstract images in camera. In 2007 he won a place in the Chelsea International Fine Art Competition in New York (with his photography), he was alongside only a handful of artists from across the globe that were chosen out of thousands of entries by esteemed Curator Tina Kukielski at the New York Whitney Museum. His photography and painting now sit side by side and he exhibits both. Nathan has recently taken to using film 'Lomography' and 'Polaroid' photography, which offer a new side to his portfolio, and a much more figurative dream like set of images.
"Although some of my new works on Polaroid are quite different to previous work, I see my new photographs as a natural progression, they felt right. An artist should try new things whenever he can, it keeps you fresh, and hopefully this will push me further and forward, into other new things, new subjects, and new mediums? After all Picasso tried his hand at Ceramics didn't he? And there is an artist that everyone should aspire to."
